After WVU experienced a winning season in 2023, Neal Brown and the Mountaineers face pressure to build off of that and keep the program climbing to national contention. And now that the full schedule has been released, the anticipation for the 2024 is growing by the day.

With the schedule out, fans and media are projecting West Virginia’s 2024 record, but predicting a season means looking at each game. Which game will be the most important for the Mountaineers during the 2024 regular season?

Obviously, whenever WVU plays Pitt, it’s important. And despite a win in 2023, the Mountaineers look to prove they can win in Pittsburgh, something they failed to do in the rebirth of the rivalry in 2022. But before the Backyard Brawl, West Virginia kicks off the season against Penn State, this time in Morgantown. A win over the Nittany Lions would do wonders for showing the rest of the country the Mountaineers are for real and likely be celebrated by WVU fans for years to come.

Regardless what happens in non conference play, the path to a Big 12 championship is decided based on what you do against conference foes. Gone are Texas and Oklahoma, but new schools are now part of the Big 12, one of which is on WVU’s schedule. Some would argue proving something to Arizona in Tucson is essential to success moving forward in the new landscape of the conference. Maybe getting revenge against Oklahoma State, a program that’s usually a contender for the conference title, means even more than beating a new addition.

In reality, every game is important because every game matters towards the teams’ overall record, but which game do you feel is the most important for Brown and WVU in 2024?

The 2024 season will be the start of a new era for the Big 12 Conference and even very likely the last year with 11 power programs on the schedule, putting pressure on West Virginia to deliver and exceed what was accomplished in 2023.
