Report: Liberty Hiring WVU WR Coach Tony Washington

Published

on

A report indicates Neal Brown’s staff is losing another coach. WVU wide receivers coach Tony Washington is leaving West Virginia for the same role at Liberty, according to Matt Zenitz of On3Sports.

Washington would be departing the Mountaineers after just one season after joining the staff in February of this year. The former NFL wide receiver turned coach will be reuniting with Jamey Chadwell. He worked under Liberty’s new head coach at Charlotte before leaving for WVU.

The 2022 season was a roller coaster ride for the WVU receivers. While Kaden Prather, who has since transferred, emerged as a weapon and Bryce Ford-Wheaton and Sam James, both declaring for the NFL Draft, had solid seasons, the group was also marred with drop issues.

This now means Brown and the WVU program needs to hire an offensive coordinator and a wide receivers coach this offseason.
