WVU Football Offensive Line

For news on one of the key open coaching positions for Rich Rodriguez’s WVU staff, Football Scoop is reporting that West Virginia is bringing in the experienced Jack Bicknell Jr. as offensive line coach.

Bicknell Jr. most recently served as the offensive line coach for Luke Fickell’s Wisconsin Badgers.

He’s been a head coach at Louisiana Tech and also coached at Auburn, Boston College, Louisville, Ole Miss, and North Carolina at the Power Four level.

Bicknell has spent time in the NFL with the New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins.

This news comes days after former WVU offensive line coach Matt Moore was announced as being hired to the same position at Virginia Tech.

Moore came to WVU in 2019, following former head coach Neal Brown from Troy. Moore served as offensive line coach all six years in Morgantown, with additional duties as co-offensive coordinator in 2019 and assistant head coach from 2020-24.

One of the best assistant coaches during Brown’s tenure at West Virginia, Moore was nominated for the 2023 Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in the nation.

During his time, Moore helped develop 2024 consensus All-American Wyatt Milum and second-round NFL Draft pick Zach Frazieralong with NFL players Doug Nester and Colton McKivitz.

Moore helped transform WVU’s offensive line from a weakness to its greatest strength in the last two seasons. After struggling to run the ball in 2019 and 2020, the Mountaineers led all power conference teams in rushing yards with 2,976 last season and were third this year.

It’s been reported that Rodriguez will not be retaining any of the previous staff other than Blaine Stewart and Chad Scott.
