Virginia Tech Hires Former WVU OL Coach Matt Moore
Former WVU offensive line coach Matt Moore has been hired by Virginia Tech, the university announced Monday.
“I am thrilled to add Matt Moore to our staff,” VT coach Brent Pry said in a statement. “He brings extensive experience coaching offensive lines at the Power Four level. His proven ability to develop strong, tough offensive line units that play with exceptional physicality will be a tremendous asset to our program. His leadership and expertise align perfectly with our vision for Virginia Tech football.โ
Moore came to WVU in 2019, following former head coach Neal Brown from Troy. Moore served as offensive line coach all six years in Morgantown, with additional duties as co-offensive coordinator in 2019 and assistant head coach from 2020-24.
One of the best assistant coaches during Brown’s tenure at West Virginia, Moore was nominated for the 2023 Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in the nation.
During his time, Moore helped develop 2024 consensus All-American Wyatt Milum and second-round NFL Draft pick Zach Frazier along with NFL players Doug Nester and Colton McKivitz.
Moore helped transform WVU’s offensive line from a weakness to its greatest strength in the last two seasons. After struggling to run the ball in 2019 and 2020, the Mountaineers led all power conference teams in rushing yards with 2,976 last season and were third this year.
It was reported that new WVU coach Rich Rodriguez would not be retaining any of the previous staff other than tight ends coach Blaine Stewart. Moore is the first former WVU assistant to secure a new job.
