Rich Rodriguez Embraces Reality for WVU After Kansas Loss: ‘Nothing Was Good’

Unable to find any positives from his team’s 41-10 loss to Kansas, WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez hammered home his main takeaway from the loss after the game – nothing was good enough.

“Yeah, not good. Nothing was good. Coaching was not good. Playing not good,” reiterated Rodriguez during his postgame press conference as his way of summarizing what happened on Saturday night.

And of course, he’s right. Kansas dominated the Mountaineers in every phase of the game.

With exactly the same number rushing attempts (41), Kansas outgunned West Virginia 242 to 188 on the ground. Most of WVU’s yardage was also inflated by backup quarterbacks Jaylen Henderson and Khalil Wilkins running for 79 yards and 36 yards, respectively, with the game already decided.

“When we’re able to run the ball, everything is a lot easier. It is what is. We gotta manufacture it some way.”

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels finished the game with three touchdown passes and 207 total yards, highlighted by 69 with his legs.

Leshon Williams gashed the Mountaineer defense, running for 129 yards and an average of 6.8 yards per carry.

But the statistics don’t even tell the whole story of a game that appeared to be decided from the opening kickoff.

And speaking of kickoffs, Rodriguez was most agitated by the monster return WVU gave up at the start of the second half. It was in that moment that any glimmer of hope they had went away for good.

All in all, Rodriguez’s assessment was right on the money. Nothing was good enough. And everything will need to be much better next week when West Virginia return home to host an equally desperate Utah team.
