West Virginia Athletics Communications Department Receives Super 11 Recognition

Despite a 5-7 season, the media relations team for West Virginia football received the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Super 11 recognition for their work in 2022.
As the name implies, WVU was one of 11 to receive the award alongside BYU, Clemson, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas State, Navy, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, UAB and Virginia. TCU head coach Sonny Dykes was also announced as the Super 11 Coach of the Year Award.

This is just the second time West Virginia has won the award, having received their first recognition in 2020. Out of the schools, only BYU and TCU were first-time winners. As for the others, Clemson and Colorado both impressively received their 10th recognition to lead those recognized.
Mike Montoro has led the WVU football communications team since 2021 and has been with the department since 2007. While college athletic departments are known for being tight-lipped and challenging to cover, the award demonstrates how well WVU treats media covering their teams compared to the rest of the country.
The communications department at WVU as a whole has been led by Michael Fragale since 2016 and he has been with the department since 1989. Since taking over, the WVU communications staff has won yearly awards from the College Sports Communicators, including a nation’s best 19 in 2019.
