It was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein that West Virginia will head to Cincinnati to play Xavier in the 2022 Big East-Big 12 Battle on Dec. 3. This marks the first time since the 2008 NCAA Tournament that the two will square off.

BIG EAST-BIG 12 BATTLE MATCHUPS:

BAYLOR @ MARQUETTE

PROVIDENCE @ TCU

GEORGETOWN @ TEXAS TECH

KANSAS STATE @ BUTLER

CREIGHTON @ TEXAS

SETON HALL @ KANSAS

OKLAHOMA STATE @ UCONN

OKLAHOMA @ VILLANOVA

WEST VIRGINIA @ XAVIER

ST. JOHN’S @ IOWA STATE

WVU is 2-1 in the battle between the Big East schools over the past three seasons, defeating UConn and Georgetown, and losing to St. John’s in 2019.

Xavier is currently going through a coaching change as the school let go of former head coach Travis Steele, hiring a familiar face in Sean Miller. The Musketeers won the NIT Tournament this past season putting together a run at the end of the season. Xavier hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since 2018, but they were always in the conversation under Steele’s tenure.

This also marks the first time since Feb. 3, 2004 that Bob Huggins will coach against Xavier at the Cintas Center, when he was at Cincinnati.

West Virginia’s non-conference schedule for the 2022-23 season is almost complete as they wait for the Big 12/SEC Challenge game to be announced.
