WVU Baseball Adds Left-Handed Transfer Pitcher

WVU Baseball earned the commitment of rising sophomore Joshua Surigao on Thursday, June 26, a left-handed transfer pitcher who spent his first college season at Hawaii.

Surigao stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 210 pounds, possessing a fastball that can top out around 90 miles per hour. He made two appearances out of the bullpen for the Rainbow Warriors during the 2025 season, fanning four batters across 1.2 scoreless innings. Surigao made his collegiate debut in a low leverage situation as Hawaii trailed 11-3, as one might expect for a young pitcher learning the ropes of Division I baseball.

However, his second appearance came with higher stakes, the Rainbow Warriors clinging to a 6-4 lead against Chaminade. That outing took place on March 11 and despite a scoreless outing, Surigao didn’t take the mound again in 2025.

Perfect Game ranked Surigao as the No. 3 lefty in the state of South Carolina as a senior, when he posted a 0.83 ERA and struck out 40 batters across 25.1 innings. Giving the low usage throughout his career, Surigao will likely fit in with the Mountaineers as a bullpen arm, although they have a track record of converting relievers into starters in recent seasons.
