WVU baseball head coach Steve Sabins has been named the 2025 ABCA East Region Coach of the Year, as announced on Wednesday.

This marks the second straight season that WVU has taken home the honor after Randy Mazey earned the award in 2024. Overall, it is the sixth time that a Mountaineer head coach has won the award as Sabins joins Mazey (2024, 2019, 2017), Greg Van Zant (1996) and Dale Ramsburg (1994).

Sabins now adds a Coach of the Year honor to his debut season that saw him lead WVU to a new record for wins, win the program’s first-ever outright Big 12 regular season title and advance to another NCAA Super Regional, falling to the eventual College World Series champion.

Overall, West Virginia finished the year 44-16 and made major top 25 polls for the ninth consecutive year, climbing into the top 15 in multiple polls to end the season.

WVU cracked the top 15 for both Baseball America and D1Baseball at No. 13 and 14, respectively. They also landed in the top 15 at No. 14 via Perfect Game. In contrast, the Mountaineers were placed at 17 in the final top 25 on the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The pressure is now on Sabins to maintain the national contender status into next season and beyond. To his credit, WVU has enjoyed great success in recruiting throughout the offseason so far.
