WVU Baseball Avenges First Loss, Takes Series with 14-7 Rout

WVU Baseball took the game and their series against Kennesaw State on Sunday, March 9, avenging their first loss of the season with a 14-7 win.
The Owls stung Mountaineers starter David Hagen for three runs in the first inning, but their lead lasted all of three batters. Brodie Kresser drew a leadoff walk, Logan Sauve doubled, and Sam White slugged a first pitch homer to make it 3-3. A Gavin Kelly triple knocked in another run with one out, but the Mountaineers (14-1) couldnโt advance him the final 90 feet.
West Virginia blew the game open in the fifth inning, leading 9-4 after RBI doubles from Sauve and Grant Hussey, while Kresser singled another run home.
A leadoff double looked like it wouldnโt go anywhere in the eighth inning after the Owls managed two quick outs, including a fieldersโ choice at the plate, then Kelly swiped home to give the Mountaineers some insurance. That sparked a rally that culminated in a three-run homer from Kresser, giving him three hits and four RBI on the dayโฆ and putting West Virginia ahead 14-5.
