WVU wrestlingโ€™s Jordan Titus and Ian Bush each earned automatic bids to the upcoming NCAA Championships with their respective finishes in the Big 12 Tournament.

Bush placed fourth at 197 pounds for the highest finish among the four Mountaineers who competed in Sunday afternoon’s session.

Bush, the No. 5 seed, defeated No. 2 Joseph Novak of Wyoming 7-4 in overtime to advance to the third place match. He then fell to South Dakota State’s Zach Glazier by decision for the second consecutive day to finish fourth.

Needing a victory to compete for third in the 141-pound bracket, Titus was pinned by top-seeded Andrew Alirez of Northern Colorado. Titus was forced to withdraw from his next match due to injury, giving him sixth place.

Fifth-year senior Sam Hillegas pinned Wyoming’s Gabe Willochell to finish seventh at 149 pounds. Caleb Dowling dropped his lone match of the day to Missouri’s James Conway for an eighth place finish at 157.

The Mountaineers who were unable to earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships will have the opportunity to be named an at-large selection.

WVU wrestlers Peyton Hall (165 pounds) and Jett Strickenberger (125) will wrestle for the title in their respective brackets in the championship round beginning at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
