WVU Baseball Rolls to 11th Straight Win

WVU Baseball rolled to their eleventh straight win on Sunday, March 2, crushing Queens University (N.C.) 11-1 in Charlotte.
Brodie Kresser and Grant Hussey each homered, the former racking up his eighth hit of the weekend, while starting pitcher Gavin Van Kempen fanned five batters in five innings, finishing his day on an easy 84 pitches. He allowed just one run, a second inning homer, before settling in, ending his day on a high note by striking out the side in the fifth inning.
The Mountaineers (11-0) put runners aboard in three of the first four innings but couldnโt break through until Hussey led off the fifth with a homer, knotting the game at one. Kresser promptly drew a full count walk then pushed all the way to third, drawing a throwing error while swiping second before Sam White singled to put West Virginia ahead. From there, the rout was on. The Mountaineers blew the game open with a five run seventh that included a bases loaded double from Jace Rinehart, then Kresser homered in the eighth. Alex Marot walked in a run in the final frame, then Hussey singled in two more runs: despite the double digit lead, no run rule came into play and Queens went to bat in the bottom of the ninth.
West Virginiaโs bullpen combined to fire four scoreless innings in relief of Van Kempen, allowing just one hit.
Up next, WVU Baseball will conclude their series with Queens starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 3.
