The West Virginia baseball team has earned its’ first team academic excellence award by the American Baseball Coaches Association. The award goes to programs that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2021-22 academic year.

West Virginia posted a team GPA of 3.11 in Fall 2021, and a 3.01 in Spring 2022 for a cumulative mark of 3.06. In total, around 250 high school programs and 420 collegian programs won the award this year.

The academic award, again the first such in program history, comes on the heels of a strong performance on the field. The team went 33-22 overall this year with a 14-10 record in the Big 12. Their conference record is the best they’ve ever had in the Big 12.

The team earned the six seed in the Big 12 tournament, but dropped both games in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field. This includes a 6-4 loss to NCAA runner-up Oklahoma and an 8-5 loss to Kansas State.
