WVU Basketball F Leaves Team, Signs With JUCO School

WVU basketball redshirt freshman forward Evans Barning Jr. will not return to WVU this season, and will continue his collegiate career at the JUCO level, per JUCORecruiting.com.

Barning will play for Navarro College in the 2026-27 season.

Barning did not see the floor this season for WVU. His departure opens a single roster spot for WVU, as the team was full after forward Brenen Lorient rejoined the team for his final year of eligibility.

Barning, a 6-foot-7 forward, enrolled early after reclassifying and was the final signee for WVU basketball last offseason.

Barning, who is originally from Toronto, Canada, played last season at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C. He had 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his final high school season.

He also competed at the AAU level for Team Durant last summer, averaging 8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
