WVU Commit Rodney Gallagher has Strong Game Despite Laurel Highlands Loss

Laurel Highlands High School (Pa.) senior and West Virginia commit Rodney Gallagher is known for being versatile on the football field, normally playing three positions during a game, including two on offense.

Gallagher started at wide receiver in Laurel Highlands’ match up against Belle Vernon on Friday night, but eventually moved to quarterback after the Mustangs had trouble moving the ball early in the contest.

Considered the No. 1 senior in the WPIAL, Gallagher completed 9 of 23 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns, all coming in the second half to fellow senior Keondre DeShields. Gallagher added 29 rushing yards.

Gallagher and DeShields connected on scoring plays of 13, 1 and 29 yards, respectively, but Laurel Highlands was unable to dig itself out of a third quarter hole.

The Mustangs trailed 28-0 with 9:56 left in the third, but were able to remain in the game, closing within two scores twice before falling 41-20.

Through two games, Gallagher now has eight total touchdowns for Laurel Highlands (1-1). Gallagher caught four touchdown passes and took a fumble for another score in a 50-6 win over Uniontown in Week 1.
