WVU Draws Praise from NCAA as One of College’s Greatest Football/Basketball Program Pairings

All recognition is good recognition.

Ok- maybe not quite.  There is certainly something to be said about the flavor of recognition that makes one infamous and reviled.  Thankfully, the bit of recognition I’m referring to today is the latter.  In a piece posted yesterday to NCAA.com, West Virginia was featured prominently at no. 12 out college’s 16 all-time greatest pairings of football and basketball programs.  It’s pretty esteemed company to be mentioned in when you consider that the Mountaineers rank alongside the likes of the Alabama’s, Notre Dame’s, Texas’s and Oklahoma’s of the world.

West Virginia’s football program (.598 overall win percentage), along with its basketball program (.619 all-time win percentage), have combined for 2,506 wins over the span of the university’s history and, with the football team looked to become resurgent under Neal Brown and Bob Huggins fielding a much-improved roster heading into 2019, Mountain Mama’s winning ways seemed primed to continue.

While this type of press holds nothing compared to the weight of a conference championship or  – gasp – a national title, it does held shed some perspective on how successful West Virginia has been on a national level over the long haul.  However small, it’s something to hang your hat on as we wait out the home stretch of the long summer offseason.
