WVU Football Announces Hiring of Victor Cabral as OLB Coach
The WVU football program and head coach Neal Brown officially announced the hiring of their new outside linebackers coach on Monday. This comes three days after Victor Cabral released a statement about his departure from Appalachian State and starting a new chapter in West Virginia.
Brown on the addition of Cabral: “I would like to welcome Victor, his wife, Erin, and their family, to West Virginia University and Mountaineer Football,” Brown said. “I have a lot of respect for him having coached and recruited against him. He brings contagious positive energy, is a proven developer of pass rushers and is an effective recruiter.”
Cabral on joining West Virginia staff: “Thanks to coach Neal Brown and vice president and director of athletics Wren Baker for giving me the opportunity to join the coaching staff at West Virginia. I am excited to become a part of Mountaineer football. This program has a long and successful history with a lot of tradition, and I have a lot of respect for the state of West Virginia, its people and their values. I look forward to working with Jordan, the coaching staff and the players.”

While not a direct replacement, this move gets the defense another coach after losing Dontae Wright when he left to take over as defensive coordinator at Troy.
Cabral, who took over the defensive line at Appalachian State before last season, helped lead a group that contributed to a defense that totaled 16 sacks in 2023. He is leaving one group of Mountaineers for another as he moves up to the major conference level in the Big 12.
A former defensive lineman at Georgia Southern in the early 2000’s, Cabral spent time at GSU before joining Appalachian State.
Next up will be the WVU football program also making the promotion of Tyler Allen as the new quarterbacks coach to replace the departing Sean Reagan official.
