MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A program with a head coach on the hot seat and pressure to turn things around can’t usually afford to put any player on the field before he’s ready. But WVU football head coach Neal Brown says freshman Rodney Gallagher, Traylon Ray and Jahiem White are more than ready to contribute right away.

In didn’t come as too much of a shock with how much praise both players have been receding, but Brown felt comfortable announcing that Gallagher, Ray and White will all play when the West Virginia kicks off the 2023 season under the Beaver Stadium lights against Penn State. WVU’s top 2023 recruits will all get to say they started their college careers off earning action in front of a packed crowd and on a national stage.

Brown made this proclamation shortly after talking about how each player stood out in a positive way during his team’s recent scrimmage in a simulated atmosphere with crowd noise added on Saturday night.

With both Gallagher and Ray showing off at practice and in the scrimmages, Brown did say he’s not prepared to place one wide receiver in front of the other on the death chart, although may be more comfortable around this time next week.

Gallagher and Ray are both athletic freaks who will only get better as they keep building their body.

As for White, coaches and fellow running backs have all been saying how impressed they are with the three-star prospect, most notably raving about his speed and shiftiness.

Expectations Are Rising for WVU Football Freshmen Rodney Gallagher, Jahiem White

Offensive coordinator Chad Scott has already talked about his desire to use everyone in WVU’s very deep running back room. White is someone who can get by any defender and use his extreme speed to create big plays. Scott went on and on about how good White has looked so far and how fast he truly is.

It takes a special player to mark an impact as a true freshman, but it’s becoming pretty clear that West Virginia fans need to start becoming very familiar with a few young Mountaineers.
