Neal Brown proclaimed on his radio show Thursday, that West Virginia freshman wide receiver Sam James will suit up against Iowa State this Saturday.

“Unless something changes in the next couple days, Sam will play,” said West Virginia coach Neal Brown.

James appeared standing undressed on the sideline during the final quarter of last week’s Texas game.  It was reported that he was dealing with an upper body injury that occurred during the second half of the game.  Brown stated that James would be listed as questionable for the Iowa State game during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Throughout his first five games, the freshman phenom leads the Mountaineers with 32 catches for 329 yards and also 2 touchdowns.

James leads all Big 12 freshman wide receivers in four different categories.  Brown spoke highly about the young receiver on his radio show Thursday saying, “I’m excited about Sam this Saturday and for the next few years. I see him maturing before our eyes as a football player and a person. I think he’s going to be a big-time player.”

Having James back in the lineup against Iowa State will bode well for the Mountaineers following the loss of wide out Sean Ryan.  Ryan is a transfer from Temple who has snagged 15 catches for 168 yards in his first five games with the Mountaineers.  He is ruled out with an upper body injury and is recovering from surgery.
