WVU Football commit Minikon Johnson out of WPIAL

(By Nathan Breisinger, Pittsburgh Sports Now) – Rich Rodriguez and WVU grabbed another 2027 prospect out of Western Pennsylvania’s WPIAL on Tuesday night.

Bishop Canevin linebacker Minikon Johnson announced his commitment to West Virginia Tuesday evening via X.

Johnson joins West Mifflin four-star running back Armand Hill in the WVU 2027 recruiting class. He also becomes the second Bishop Canevin product to commit to the Mountaineers in recent years after safety Jason Cross Jr. signed in the 2024 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Johnson is a rising prospect in Western Pennsylvania as he added three offers during camp season in the past month.

Akron, Kent State and West Virginia all offered with the Mountaineers becoming his first after Johnson attended the 7-on-7 camp in Morgantown, W.Va. two weeks ago.

Johnson was primarily a standup edge rusher in the Crusaders’ 3-4 defense last season as he wreaked havoc in the backfield. He was an All-Conference honorable mention.
