WVU HC Neal Brown Comments on Each National Signing Day Signee

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU head coach Neal Brown commented on the individual signees for the Class of 2023 during National Signing Day. Here’s what Brown had to say about every player in alphabetical order.

Sean Boyle / QB: “I think he’s a guy that flew under the radar that has a chance to grow. We saw him live multiple times. Two-time state champion so I think his best football is yet to come.”

Noah Braham / HB: “Great story. University High product. Rich [Noah’s father] walked on here as a tight end, developed really into one of the top offensive lineman that’s ever played at WVU. Noah is going to give us a ton of versatility. I think he can play a number of different positions. Man, he’s gonna be really good in that role [h-back], he could play defense as well.”

Ben Cutter / LB: “A guy that was under-recruited for a while and as he continued to play he got more popular with the other schools. I think he’ll be a factor for us next year.”

Oryend Fisher / EDGE: “This guy has a ton of potential and we want to play him on the edge. He had 25 sacks in two years, that’s impressive.”

Rodney Gallagher III / WR: “Rodney was probably as integral recruit that we’ve had here in my tenure. We’ve treated him like a local player the whole time. This is how I describe it, the exit I get off my house every single day, it says Uniontown. He’s got a PA address but he’s a local product and probably the most highly recruited guy maybe since Wyatt [Milum].”

James Heard / LB: “Early grad. He’ll be here. He had 18 sacks in nine games. He’s an elite pass rusher. He’ll be a guy that will play from our first game, I really feel strongly about that.”

Josiah Jackson / CB: “He’ll be here in January. He played in the US Army Bowl last week. He was First-Team All-Ohio. We saw him live two years ago and there was no question in my mind he had the length, the versatility.”

Jordan Jackson / CB: “His best football is ahead of him. Also played running back in high school, he’s one of the top track athletes in the state of Ohio as well.”

Tory Johnson / WR: “He’s a legacy as well. Dad, Tory Sr., played here. Mom, Tiffany, is a WVU grad. They’ve bled gold and blue since the beginning. Two-time state champion. To watch his progression, to watch him grow. He’ll start here playing kind of an inside receiver but he’s gonna grow into a premier tight end and believe he will.”

Zachariah Keith / DE: “He’s got 20 sacks the last two years. Body-wise he’s going to remind you of Sean Martin when you see him.”

Nick Krahe / OL: “I really believe he’ll be a multiple year starter here. He’s a great basketball player goes for a double-double, multiple years in basketball. He has a 4.0-plus GPA.”

DJ Oliver / RB: “He’s a big leap back. 240-pounds. I think the unique thing about him is he was a state finalist in shot put, 100 meters and weightlifting. I think a steal late in the process.”

Traylon Ray / WR: “Guy that plays all three sports [football, basketball, baseball]. He’s a baseball player and probably good enough to play at this level. Walked in a couple of weeks ago and the first thing I saw was a slam [dunk]. He brought it down, that was exciting. Also a great kickoff and punt returner.”

Josiah Trotter / LB: “He’s an early grad. He was a defensive leader in his class, he’s playing in the same All-American bowl on NBC that Rodney [Gallagher] is. Three-time state champion. His family handled this recruiting process probably as good as anybody’s.”

Jahiem White / RB: “He earned a scholarship that opportunity [during camp workout before junior year] and he’s continued to. He’s almost got 6,000 career rushing yards. I can’t remember, not saying I haven’t but I can’t remember signing a guy [that has]. Also has over 10 yards a carry.”

Johnny Williams IV / OL: “When I went to see him, he filled up the doorframe of his house. He’s an early grad, he’s got a twin sister who’s a great athlete as well. He’s one of the top tackles in the country.”

Cooper Young / OL: “[He comes from an area] that turns out a lot of really good offensive line prospects. He’s a guy that we had at camp multiple times and one of the top interior lineman in the country.”
