WVU interim HC Josh Eilert has commented on the Jose Perez reports on Saturday night. West Virginia’s basketball program and Perez have parted ways with each other.

“We wish Jose the best in his future endeavors,” Eilert said per release.

Perez had academic issues and therefore was no longer with the team over the past couple of days. Things started to circulate mid-week and picked up all on Saturday. Perez did not quit the team, per source. It appears that Perez’s NCAA eligibility has come to an end. Perez’s waiver was denied by the NCAA last winter and the fifth-year senior needed to finish out his eligibility during the 2023-24 season.

Perez re-opened his recruitment in July after Bob Huggins resigned. Perez committed back to Eilert’s staff but will not play a game for West Virginia. Perez originally committed to West Virginia last October after Steve Masiello was let go at Manhattan.

WVSN will continue to update Perez’s situation throughout the weekend.
