Zach Frazier Gives Strong Response About Playing Hurt Against Lions
(By Brendan Howe, Steelers Now) DETROIT — Zach Frazier didn’t practice on Thursday. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ second-year center joined his fellow offensive linemen for Friday’s session, albeit with a heavily taped arm.
“It feels good,” Frazier said about his injured triceps after the Steelers’ 29-24 road win over the Detroit Lions.
It appeared as if he was thinking of going into further detail before hesitating. Not that it mattered. There wasn’t much that could’ve stood in his way of playing.
“I’ll play through just about anything, as long as they let me,” Frazier said. “If they tell me there’s a chance, I’m gonna play. I don’t have to be 100% to play. No one ever is, really, at this point in the year, anyways.”
Steelers center Zach Frazier explaining his mentality on playing hurt:
"I'll play through just about anything, as long as they let me. If they tell me there's a chance, I'm gonna play. I don't have to be 100% to play. No one ever is, really, at this point in the year, anyways."

Thanks in part to Frazier’s blocking, the Steelers rushed for 230 yards during the massive road victory. It was the first time Pittsburgh had eclipsed 200 yards on the ground this season. Jaylen Warren ran for 143 yards on 14 carries, including two 45-yard scoring sprints, and Kenneth Gainwell went for another 50 yards on nine gives.
“It’s easy to block for those guys when they’re hitting runs like that,” Frazier said. “I think they both just read it perfectly and hit it full speed. Credit to, really, everyone across the board, from the line to the tight ends to the receivers, because when you have runs like that, you have to have all 10 guys on someone.”
The Steelers were without their usual starting left guard, Isaac Seumalo. Spencer Anderson, Andrus Peat and Dylan Cook stepped up to fill in on the line.
“Even when they were sitting behind people, they were still preparing to play,” Frazier said. “The two years I’ve been here, Dylan hasn’t really got a shot yet. Dylan’s been preparing the whole time. The same with (Andrus) Peat. Peat has been in and out some, too. Spence has obviously been playing a lot of tight end. … There’s no one in our room just sitting there planning on riding the bench.”
