Senior guard Honor Huff has had an impressive start to the 2025-26 season, averaging 17.8 points per game and is on a three-game streak of scoring 24 points.

With just one game left before Big 12 play, head coach Ross Hodge expects conference opponents to key in on Huff on defense.

“Going into these games, I would imagine, you know, he’ll be one A, maybe one A, one B, one C, as to who you gotta stop, you know? And, and how that is applied, it’ll be interesting to see,” Hodge said in a press conference Thursday.

Huff has earned the extra attention on defense, as he leads the nation in three-pointers made with 49 on 117 attempts. He finished last year as the nation’s leader in threes made with 131 at Chattanooga.

While many may have expected Huff to be a pure two-guard, he has been very efficient handling the ball this season as well. He has consistently made shots off the dribble and found his open teammates, coming off a season-high four assists against Ohio State.

Hodge added his ability to make plays as a ball-handler, which was on display more in his freshman and sophomore seasons, made him an attractive recruiting target in the offseason.

“And that was one thing we looked at when we were evaluating him. You know, we actually went back and looked a couple years ago and like, okay man, he’s actually a little better with the ball in his hands than maybe he was given credit for last year because of the way their team was made up,” Hodge added.

As the season shifts into its second half, Hodge emphasized the importance of the team, as well as Huff, improving. Hodge said Huff playing with the ball in his hands is an opportunity to improve.

“And then he’s gotta continue to improve like the rest of his teammates, even with a guy like that that’s a senior with, you know, two or three months left in his college basketball career, you wanna take these opportunities to continue to get better, ย and he can get better with playing with the ball in his hands a little bit more and playing some point guard,” Hodge said.

The team stands without any wins over high-quality opponents, putting them in the high 70’s in the KenPom rankings.

WVU basketball will take the court again at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 when it hosts Mississippi Valley State at the Hope Coliseum.
