2024 G KJ Tenner officially signed with West Virginia during the “regular signing period” opening, as announced by the basketball program on Thursday. Tenner is a 6-foot prospect from Memphis, Tn.

“We are elated to have KJ join our Mountaineer basketball program,” WVU HC Darian DeVries said. “He is the ultimate competitor who possesses incredible leadership qualities and cares a great deal about winning. KJ has great feel and vision and does an outstanding job of making his teammates better.”

Tenner, who won Tennessee’s Mr. Basketball award this year, is a recruit out of Cordova High School in Memphis. Tenner averaged 23 points as a senior and led the city of Memphis in scoring with 28 points per game as a sophomore. Tenner originally signed with Drake during the early period back in November.

Before committing to Drake, Tenner received offers from Arkansas State, Bradley, Central Michigan, Murray State, North Alabama, Texas State and others. Tenner also had interest from Memphis, Ole Miss and Tulane during his recruitment.

After WVU hired DeVries in March, Tenner decided to request for his National Letter of Intent release at Drake. It was important for Tenner to follow his coach.

“It was very important to me because I had built a relationship with him. I feel he believes in me and what I am capable of,” Tenner told WV Sports Now. “I love how calm he is regardless of how the game is going, he gets the best out of his players. As a person, he is a fun guy to be around and he’s pretty funny!”
