Angels Select WVU Pitcher Derek Clark in 9th Round of MLB Draft

Derek Clark became the fourth WVU baseball player drafted when the Angeles took him in the ninth round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

The Los Angeles Angels selected Clark with the 262nd pick. Even though he only spent one season as a Mountaineer, Clark will likely be remembered by WVU fans for years to come.

Clark was even recognized as a Rowlings Gold Glove winner for his work defensively.

On the mound, Clark posted an 8-3 record with four complete games after transferring to West Virginia for his final college season. He also a 3.23 ERA and struck out 91 batters during the regular season.

Clark then won a game for the Mountaineers in the NCAA Regional over Dallas Baptist and threw 144 pitches despite a loss in his NCAA Super Regional start against North Carolina.

Clark also represented WVU by being named to the All-Big 12 first team and a third team All-American via the National College Baseball Writers Association.
