Big 12 Tournament Field Set with WVU Baseball as Top Seed
Despite West Virginia’s recent struggles, the Mountaineers earned the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament after winning the WVU baseball program’s first-ever outright regular season title.
After the conclusion of Saturday’s games throughout the conference, the rest of the seedings for the tournament are now set.
West Virginia (19-9) will face the winner of No. 8 seed Cincinnati and No. 9 seed Texas Tech on Thursday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT.

Kansas (20-10) earned the second seed, its highest Big 12 seeding in program history, surpassing its previous high of No. 3 in 2014. They will open the Conference Championship against the winner of No. 7-seeded Oklahoma State and No. 10-seeded Baylor at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, May 22.
TCU (19-11) took the No. 3 seed, its highest spot since being ranked No. 1 in the 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship. The Horned Frogs will begin the Championship on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CT against either No. 6 Kansas State or No. 11 Houston.
Arizona (18-12) rounds out the teams with an opening-day bye as the No. 4 seed after holding the tiebreaker over Arizona State due to its 2-1 series win in April. The Wildcats will make their Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship debut against the winner of game 1 between No. 12 BYU and No. 5 Arizona State on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT/8 a.m. MDT/7 a.m. MST.
No. 5 Arizona State (18-12) will open the tournament at 9 a.m. CT/8 a.m. MDT/7 a.m. MST on Wednesday against No. 12 BYU. No. 8 Cincinnati (16-14) and No. 9 Texas Tech (13-17) will follow at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
Oklahoma State (15-12), who won the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship, earned the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 10 Baylor (13-17), who will be making its first appearance in the tournament since 2022 at 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday. No. 6 Kansas State (17-13) and No. 11 Houston (12-17) will bring the first day of action to a close with a battle at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
The 2025 Championship, which features an increase to 12 teams, will be played in a single-elimination format for the first time. All 12 teams participating in the event own a top 90 RPI, with eight in the top 50.
