West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins thinks his team has been close to turning the season around following an 0-5 start in Big 12 play.

“We’re close. I think we’ve been close,” Huggins said on Monday afternoon. “We just haven’t made crucial plays the way we need to make crucial plays.”

In WVU’s five games during their losing streak, their point differential is -33. West Virginia has seemingly fixed the turnover and rebounding issues that cost them back in non-conference play but the free throw issue has turned into a problem. West Virginia has missed 56 free throws in the last five games, which is the most in Division-I basketball during that stretch.

“We’ve cleaned up the turnover issue. I think they’re playing hard. They played hard in that game [against Oklahoma]. Every once in a while you need a break,” Huggins said.

West Virginia will host two ranked teams this week with No. 14 TCU on Wednesday and No. 7 Texas on Saturday. Mountaineers will look to end a five-game losing streak and get their first conference win of the season.
