Breaking: 2026 WVU Football Commit to Transfer WPIAL High Schools
With the start of the 2024 WPIAL high school football season less than a month away, our partner at Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned some huge transfer news that concerns a player committed to WVU.
PSN has learned that 2026 three-star linebacker and current West Virginia commit Davieon Taylor is no longer enrolled at Aliquippa and intends to transfer back to Bishop Canevin High School, the school he originally attended before transferring to Aliquippa.
PSN was given this information by three separate sources that are close to the situation.
The question now becomes whether or not Taylor will be eligible to play this upcoming season, which seems unlikely. A current athletic director in the WPIAL told PSN that he’d guess that Taylor would be deemed ineligible due to the fact that he’s already been practicing with the Aliquippa team.
Taylor, 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, revealed his commitment to the Mountaineers during a conversation with WVU legend Pat McAfee after West Virginia’s Gold-Blue spring game in April.
2026 3-Star Out Of WPIAL Reveals WVU Commitment to Pat McAfee
Taylor, a 2026 three-star prospect, posted a video of his talk with McAfee on social media. He committed to WVU over offers from Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse and a bunch of other schools.
Taylor started his high school career at Bishop Canevin before transferring to Aliquippa.
Taylor is a big, well-built linebacker coming off his freshman season at Bishop Canevin, and he made an impact across the offensive and defensive side of the football.
He recorded 76 tackles (62 solo), 23 tackles for loss, a team-high 17 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered four and broke up two passes to help lead the Crusaders to a 12-2 season.
His strong freshman season earned him MaxPrep’s Freshman All-American honors.
