WVU Women’s Basketball Blows Out BGSU; Shaw Ejected for Punch
WVU Women’s Basketball picked up a 78-47 home win over Bowling Green State University on Tuesday night, but the stifling performance came at a cost as officials ejected junior guard Sydney Shaw during the third quarter for throwing a punch.
Bowling Green played the No. 13 ranked Mountaineers close in the first period, fighting back to tie the game on four separate occasions. Leading 19-15 after the first ten minutes, West Virginia’s defense took over in the second quarter, limiting the Falcons to 2-for-12 shooting—including a scoreless streak that lasted nearly seven minutes, stretching into the second half—and forcing nine turnovers.

Shaw received a technical foul for her third period punch, which followed a foul from Bowling Green’s Taya Ellis and the resulting JJ Quinerly free throws.
West Virginia led 41-23 at the time of the ejection, and while the Falcons’ offense improved with Shaw out of the game—Bowling Green guard Amy Velasco nailed a trio of three-pointers to close out the frame—the Mountaineers still managed to coast to victory despite Shaw’s absence, including a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter.
WVU Women’s Basketball will conclude this five game homestand against Lafayette at 7pm on Friday, November 22. Should Shaw face further discipline, missing that game wouldn’t be the end of the world for the Mountaineers.
