Wondering when former Mountaineer Miles McBride will be back on the court for the New York Knicks? Well, it could be awhile based on recent comments made by Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Earlier in the week, Thibodeau provided an answer full of uncertainty when asked about McBride’s absence from the lineup with what’s being characterized as knee inflammation.

“I’m not quite sure. We just want to let it calm down,” said Thibodeau, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

“Once he’s ready to go, we just don’t want him to linger. [He’s] getting a little better, just be patient,” he added.

McBride was initially ruled as a game-time decision before the first two games he missed, but is now showing up as “out” on the injury report. Prior to the injury, McBride was having a solid start to the season in his role as New York’s sixth man off the bench.

McBride has averages of 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game and a shooting percentage of 44% through 11 games played.

The 2024-25 season marks McBride’s fourth NBA year after wrapping up a college career with WVU.

McBride wrapped up his third NBA season for the Knicks in May, falling to the Indiana Pacers in game seven of the Eastern Conference semifinals. McBride saw increased play, including starting during the playoffs. McBride averaged 8.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists through 68 regular season games and 11.0 points on 44% shooting in 26.7 minutes per contest in the playoffs.

Last December, McBride signed a $13 million extension with the Knicks over the next three years. The Knicks traded away several players throughout the season, allowing McBride to pick up more minutes in the rotation.

McBride played two seasons at West Virginia from 2019-21, leading the Mountaineers to an NCAA Tournament appearance during his sophomore year. McBride averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game at WVU.

For a related story, McBride was part of a viral and bizarre moment with a former NBA MVP.
