Peyton Hall Wins While Representing WVU Wrestling at NWCA All-Star Classic
Heading into Saturday’s NWCA All-Star Classic, the WVU wrestling program’s fifth-year senior Peyton Hall said he would be unfazed by the big stage and large crowd of the event, and he certainly wrestled that way.
Hall, the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the nation at 165 pounds, pinned Stanford’s Hunter Garvin in 5:54 inside Penn State University’s Rec Hall.

After falling into an early hole, Hall rallied to close the deficit to 5-4 against Garvin, who is ranked No. 8. Hall used a takedown early in the third period to jump in front 7-5 before flipping Garvin onto his back for the pin.

Hall’s victory avenged a loss to Garvin at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Garvin defeated Hall by a 14-4 major decision in Round 4 of the consolation bracket, which sent Hall into the seventh-place match.
West Virginia’s 149-pound standout sophomore Ty Watters also competed in the event, falling to No. 2 ranked Shayne Van Ness of Penn State by a 16-4 major decision.
The defeat gave Watters, who came in ranked third nationally in the weight class, his first loss of the season.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday when West Virginia visits Appalachian State.
