WVU Basketball Signs 4-Star Guard Kelvin Odih

WVU basketball has signed its second four-star player of the day, as guard Kelvin Odih officially signed with the Mountaineers on Thursday.

Hours after his teammate Trent MacLean officially signed, Odih followed suit, choosing WVU over offers from Rutgers, Marquette, Creighton, Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Rhode Island, SMU, Texas A&M, Xavier and Colorado.

Odih plays alongside MacLean at SoCal Academy Castaic, California, where he is currently averaging 17 points per game. Odih is a 6-5, 200-pound guard/wing from Providence, Rhode Island, and is ranked as a Top 75 national prospect and a four-star recruit by many scouting services. Odih verbally committed to WVU and first-year head coach Darian DeVries last month.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kelvin to our Mountaineer family,” DeVries said in a statement. “We identified Kelvin early in the summer as someone who we wanted to recruit to West Virginia. His competitive spirit, will to win and versatility on both ends of the court are attributes that we highly value. We are looking forward to coaching Kelvin and helping him reach his potential both on and off the basketball court.”

Odih got the chance to meet former WVU and current New York Knicks guard Deuce McBride during his trip to Morgantown.

McBride, of course, had to pitch West Virginia to the high school senior.

“Deuce was telling me about his experience at West Virginia and that if I were to come here, I would meet people who would become life-long friends,” Odih said. “That people take care of people that come here. It’s a big family state. They all take care of each other.”

Odih, MacLean and Braydon Hawthorne (three-star forward) make up the rest of DeVries’ second high school class so far at West Virginia.
