The Mountaineers have not been synonymous with putting guys into the MLB until the last handful of years under the leadership of head coach Randy Mazey. That has all changed as just moments ago, Ivan “Pudge” Gonzalez became the second Mountaineer to come off the board and was selected by Chicago White Sox.

Gonzalez went from being undrafted as a junior to being a top 10 round guy, which is a pretty significant jump if you are unfamiliar with the MLB Draft.

As a senior, he hit three home runs while collecting 31 RBI’s and hitting a crisp .294. He was one of the Big 12’s best defensive catchers and with the development of his tools at the plate is the reason he soared into the eighth round.
