West Virginia senior defensive tackle Darius Stills has been named the preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and to the Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team, as voted on by the members of the media.

The elder Stills brother broke into the spotlight last season, earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors and was a finalist for the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. Stills racked up 47 tackles and led the team in tackles for loss with 14.5 and tied with his brother for the team lead in sacks with seven.

In December Darius announced that he would return for one final season at WVU instead of declaring for the NFL draft. In the run up to the 2020 season, Darius has continued to gain attention, being named to the Chuck Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy watch lists.

Stills was the only Mountaineer honored on the preseason team. Oklahoma State running back Chubba Hubbard was selected as the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler was named the preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Hubbard and Stills were among WVSN’s picks:
