West Virginia football has added a familiar face to the coaching staff for the 2021 season. Former Troy director of player personnel David Faulkner will join the WVU staff as the special assistant to the head coach.

Faulkner served on Troy’s football staff from 2019-2021 and before that, he was a successful high school coach in Georgia and Alabama.

Serving as the offensive coordinator for Grayson High School in Loganville, Georiga this year, Faulkner spent seven seasons as the head coach for Enterprise High School in 7A Alabama football prior to his hiring at Troy. He has also served as the head coach at Fairhope (Ala.) High School, leading the team to a 28-9 record with three playoff appearances.

As an offensive coordinator at Foley (Ala.) High School, he helped the team to a 22-3 record and regional title. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Hoover (Ala.) High School, Clarke County (Ala.) High School and Alma Bryant (Ala.) High School during his career.

In his two decades of high school coaching experience, Faulkner has been named the Alabama 7A Coach of the Year in 2016 and led his teams to playoff appearances more often than not.

Faulkner’s hiring comes as the second football hire of the day, joining Osman Kamara, the assistant director of player relations/transition coordinator, on the 2021 coaching staff.
