Former WVU basketball player Jimmy Bell is entering the transfer portal as a football player, as reported by On3 Sports. Bell has exhausted his eligibility in basketball but still has one year left in football.

Bell practiced spring football with Mississippi State’s team after playing for the Bulldogs in basketball this past season. Bell averaged 5.0 points and 4.9 rebounds for Chris Jans, reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to MSU, Bell also practiced with West Virginia’s football team last spring, appearing in the spring game. Coming out of high school, Bell was a three-star football prospect, receiving a few mid-major offers. Bell took unofficial visits to Michigan and Michigan State back before he committed to playing basketball.

Bell started in all 34 games for the Mountaineers two seasons ago, averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds. The Saginaw, Mi. native arrived on WVU’s campus in April 2022 and began his weight loss journey which resulted in him losing 80 pounds over the summer. Bell joined WVU’s team after a stint in JUCO ball at Moberly Area CC. Bell started his collegiate career off at Saint Louis.

This marks the first time that Bell will seek to play collegiate football without having basketball available. Bell played five seasons of college basketball and has one year of football eligibility remaining.
