Jimmy Bell will be on a trial run during the spring session for football, according to head coach Neal Brown. It was first reported on Thursday morning that Bell, a current member of the West Virginia basketball team, has been participating in football practice recently.

“Jimmy Bell is on a trial run with us. Coach Huggins and I talked at the end of March and agreed to make April a trial run,” Brown said.

Brown wasn’t scheduled to speak today but addressed the media, including Mike Asti of WVSN, to quickly discuss a couple of topics, including Bell practicing. The fifth-year head coach added about Bell that there are no expectations. Brown also announced that freshman linebacker Josiah Trotter will miss the entirety of the 2023 season due to a leg injury.

Bell (6-foot-10, 285 pounds) has played basketball during his four years in college so far, starting at Saint Louis and after a year in JUCO coming to WVU. Under his first season with Bob Huggins, Bell started all 34 games averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Coming out of high school, Bell was a 3-star prospect, receiving a few mid-major offers. Bell took unofficial visits to Michigan and Michigan State back before he committed to playing basketball.
