Former Mountaineer Joe Mazzulla to be hired as NBA assistant

In a week that has been centered on football recruiting, a little bit of basketball news occurred today.

According to Adrian Wojnaroski is ESPN, former West Virginia guard Joe Mazzulla has been hired by the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach.

Mazzulla, spent three years as an assistant at Fairmont State before taking the same position for the Celtics D-League team the Maine Red Claws.

After one year in the Celtics organization, he had the opportunity to return to Fairmont State as the head coach, which he ultimately accepted. In two seasons, he went 43-17 including a berth in the NCAA D-II Tournament.

During his time at West Virginia, he appeared in 145 games averaging 4.8 points and 2.6 assists per game  and was an integral part of the 2010 Final Four team.
