Former Notre Dame cornerback to visit West Virginia

It has been rumored for a week or so now, but the rumors can now be laid to rest and we can now confirm that former Notre Dame cornerback Nick Watkins will be visiting West Virginia this week.

Watkins, a former four star recruit out of Dallas, TX, played in 25 career games for the Fighting Irish notching 34 tackles and one interception.

The news of Watkins visiting West Virginia was first reported by Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. Watkins is also considering TCU, Houston and SMU.

The Mountaineers have had a great offseason of landing grad transfers, but landing Watkins would be a huge get. Not only would it mean they beat out three schools close to his hometown, but it helps stabilize the corner position for Tony Gibson’s defense.

West Virginia has already added defensive linemen Kenny Bigelow (USC) and Jabril Robinson (Clemson) to the defense along with cornerback Denzel Fisher (UCLA). Tony Gibson looks to get some more help via the grad transfer route with Watkins.
