Former WVU Football Fullback Dies

The WVU football alumni family has lost one of their own, as the WVU Varsity Club confirmed the death of former Mountaineer fullback Moe Fofana on Wednesday.

“The WVU Varsity Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former WVU fullback Moe Fofana. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this time,” posted the Varsity Club.

Fofana served as West Virginia’s starting fullback from 2001-03. While primarily used as a blocker, he caught a couple passes during his career, namely a six-yard touchdown pass from Rasheed Marshall against Tennessee-Chattanooga and a short-yardage reception against Miami.

He was the 2002 recipient of the Tom Nickolich Memorial Award, presented by the Blue and Gold News for outstanding dedication by a walk-on.

Fofana was only 45-years-old.
