Four More WVU Baseball Players Selected in MLB Draft

Four former WVU Baseball players had their names called in the MLB Draft Monday evening. First baseman Kyle West, right-handed pitcher Robby Porco, left-handed pitcher Griffin Kirn and outfielder Skylar King all were drafted across rounds 13-15.

West went in the 13th round at pick 404 to the New York Yankees. He started 52 games, playing in 59 for the Mountaineers last season.

West led the team in home runs with 11 and RBIs with 38 while batting .339. He also had team-highs in OPS with a 1.088, slugging percentage with .601 and on-base percentage at .487.

In West’s junior season in 2024, he started 51 out of his 56 games played. He hit .260 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs while going 8-8 on stolen bases.

Porco was taken directly after West at pick 405 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Porco had 13 appearances for WVU last season with one start.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore finished the year with a 2-1 record after tallying an 8.71 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10.1 innings.

The Oakland Athletics selected Kirn in the 14th round and 410th pick. Kirn finished the 2025 season with 99 innings pitched, 103 strikeouts, a 3.36 ERA and a 5-3 record.

Kirn was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and the Big 12 All-Tournament team in his lone season as a Mountaineer.

King went at pick 448 in the 15th round to the Boston Red Sox. He started 59 games in center field for WVU last year.

In 2025, King hit .291 with 32 RBIs and three home runs. Over the yea, he hit nine doubles, two triples and scored on 42 runs.

In King’s sophomore season, he played in 58 games with 45 starts, hitting a .258 with 26 RBIs and five home runs.

Monday’s draftees mark five total Mountaineers selected in the 2025 MLB Draft. Catcher Logan Sauve went first for WVU Monday in the seventh round at pick 200 to the Oakland Athletics.
