Highly Regarded 2027 WPIAL LB Withdraws Commitment to WVU Football

After being committed to join the WVU football program since June, a Western Pennsylvania prospect has decided to withdraw his commitment to the Mountaineers.

Minikon Johnson, a highly regarded 2027 linebacker, out of the WPIAL’s Bishop Canevin High School revealed his intentions by posting a letter on social media on Thursday.

“West Virginia was the first school to show me love and give me an opportunity to represent their program. I have nothing but love and respect for the coaching staff, the fans and everything about WVU,” said Johnson before stating he intends to re-open his recruitment.

Johnson initially committed to West Virginia, his first Power Four offer, on June 24, becoming WVU’s second WPIAL commit for the 2027 class.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Johnson is a rising prospect in Western Pennsylvania – he earned an offer from Penn State in early November.

Akron, Kent State and Liberty are among Johnson’s other offers.
