WVU C Jesse Edwards recorded a historic individual performance against TCU with 36 points and 13 rebounds on Wednesday. Edwards did this in front of former WVU HC Bob Huggins, who was all dressed up as he stood on the floor to celebrate Senior Night with the players.

“The guys [Huggins] recruited, we asked him to come out,” Edwards said following the game.

While Huggins didn’t walk out with any of the players, he and his wife, June, did stand at the end of the court waiting next to picture frames.

“Always good to see him. The guys that were recruited by Huggs, we’re still really close with him. We’re on really good terms,” Edwards said. “It was nice for us to have him be out there for this night to have him be there for us as well. I think that was important for us to do that. He and June [Huggins] have always been really good to us.”

Edwards committed to West Virginia last April, transferring from Syracuse while Huggins was still head coach. Following Huggins’ resignation in June, Edwards decided to stick with interim HC Josh Eilert even though the transfer portal re-opened for WVU players.

While Edwards never played a single game for Huggins, it is interesting to see the impact the Basketball Hall of Famer had on him and the other seniors.

Edwards is averaging 15.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks through 21 games for the Mountaineers during his fifth season of college basketball.

West Virginia will travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats in the regular season finale on Saturday.
