Dreams of a drivable WVU basketball NCAA Tournament destination are on hold, at least according to the latest Bracketology update.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the No. 23 Mountaineers (13-4, 4-2 Big 12) moving up the seed line, but traveling further from home in Tuesday’s update. Lunardi has WVU as the No. 6 seed in the West Region, playing its first-round game against New Mexico in Seattle. West Virginia was thought to be a No. 10 seed two weeks ago and moved to a No. 7 seed last week before being upgraded again on Tuesday.

WVU’s already-strong resume got another boost over the weekend when the Mountaineers knocked off then-No. 2 Iowa State behind 27 points from Big 12 Player of the Year frontrunner Javon Small. That gives West Virginia three top-10 wins this season, just the third time in program history the Mountaineers have achieved such a feat.

Right now, West Virginia’s resume includes ranked wins over Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas and Iowa State. The Mountaineers could notch another top-10 victory, and avenge one of its losses, when Houston comes to town on Jan. 29.

The win also propelled WVU basketball back into the AP Top 25 Poll, checking in at No. 23 this week.

West Virginia hosts Arizona State tonight for a 9 p.m. tipoff inside the Coliseum and then hits the road for a game at Kansas State Saturday at 6 p.m.
