Stevens (6-foot-2, 255 pounds) is a Toronto, Canada native and played three seasons at Maine from 2017-19. The Black Bears did not play in 2020.
Stevens redshirted as a true freshman in 2016 and played 10 games in 2017. He totaled 50 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He had a breakout 2018 season in which he was named all-conference and an All-American. In 14 games, Stevens had 120 total tackles with 17 tackles for loss, nine sacks and an interception.
That standout 2018 season was Steven’s last full season as he suffered a season-ending injury in the team’s first game of 2019 and Maine did not play a game last season.
West Virginia was in need of a middle linebacker following the graduation of Tony Fields II last season. The Mountaineers lost Fields, but will return fellow starter Josh Chandler-Semedo and backup Exree Loe.
