Michigan WR Calls WVU “A Special Place” after Visit

Bay City Central (MI) 2020 wide receiver Devell Washington didn’t even believe West Virginia was interested in his talents or even knew he was two weeks ago.

But then the Mountaineers offered, shocking the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Michigan product.

“I was really excited to get the offer. It was sort of unexpected – I didn’t know they knew who I was. I’m still in shock, but I’m grateful,” Washington told DubVNation.

Despite his new-found relationship with West Virginia and standing offers from Michigan and Ohio State, Washington recently made his way to Morgantown and was impressed with what he saw.

“The visit was amazing and there was a lot of energy in the building. WVU is a special place,” Washington said. “The program is on the rise. Coach Brown and his staff are going to take the Big 12 by storm. I can see a Big 12 championship in the next few years.”

Washington added that he “liked” former Mountaineers Kevin White, Gary Jennings and David Sills. So much so, that he believes his mixture of size, speed and physicality can lead to him playing just like them.

For now, Washington is focused on improving his route-running, blocking and hands while leading his team to the playoffs and a conference title in 2019.

When it does come time to choose a school, however, he says “just finding the right fit on and off the field and a family feel” will be important factors.

Washington plans on return visits during the spring game and practices.
