National Signing Day Primer 2019

The early signing period for recruits is rapidly approaching (Dec 19.) and the Mountaineers have some work to do. For those wanting to know where the team stands on the recruiting trail, we have you covered! The Mountaineers currently have 15 verbal commits and are looking to fill 8 more spots which would put them at the maximum allotment for this recruiting cycle.

It has been an interesting recruiting year, to say the least. Some pulled offers and decommitments have made the numbers for this class look small, but the quality is certainly there. So here is a brief recap of what has happened since the season officially started:

LB Lee Kpogba decommits, commits to Syracuse

LB commit Dewayne Grantham has scholarship pulled

LB/S commit Amir Richardson has scholarship pulled

WR  commit Deshon Stoudemire has scholarship pulled

WR commit Isaiah Hazel has scholarship pulled, commits to Maryland

So, as you can tell there have been a few departures in this class and they all had different reasons as to why their offer was pulled. Nonetheless, head coach Dana Holgorsen and his staff have been working diligently finding replacements for those departures. Below is a quick breakdown at the 2019 recruiting class as of 12/14.

S- Tykee Smith, Osita Smith, Kerry Martin Jr.

K- Kolton McGhee

With 8 scholarships still available, I would expect a few to be used on junior college prospects and transfers/grad transfers. So, with the early signing period right around the corner, who are the Mountaineers in the hunt for? Below is a breakdown by position:

OL- Darius Tisdale (Syracuse commit), Moses Mallory, JUCO route expected

S- Isheem Young

Sources close to DubVNation, believe that all of the current 15 commits are expected to sign on December 19th, those who have yet to decide, would likely sign in February. Sources also said the coaching staff would like to add 2 quarterbacks, 1 offensive lineman, 1-2 wide receivers, 2 defensive linemen and 1 cornerback in this class.

This weekend will be another big recruiting weekend in Morgantown with the last round of official visits prior to the early signing period. The confirmed visitors for this weekend are WR Ali Jennings, S Isheem Young, S Tykee Smith, OL Brandon Yates, OL Donovan Beaver, WR Winston Wright Jr., K Kolt McGhee, CB Tavion Mayo, and CB Jamel Starks.
