NCAA Suspends In-Person Recruiting Until April 15

Published

The recruiting business will carry on, but it will happen strictly over the phone until at least April 15.

The NCAA has mandated that all recruiting for all sports will immediately enter a dead period that will last until April 15.

A dead period means there can be no in-person contact between coaches and potential recruits, on or off campus. Coaches and players are still allowed to communicate by mail, text message and phone call.

Players can still receive and announce offers and give verbal commitments during the dead period.

Men’s basketball was in the middle of a recruiting period scheduled to run through March 31, with another open recruiting period from April 9-12. The basketball signing period is scheduled to open on April 15.

Football had been going through a quiet period, where in-person visits can only happen on the school’s campus, usually in association with spring football. That quiet period had been scheduled to end on April 14, with an evaluation period for coaches to conduct visits beginning on April 15.
