Just hours after Arizona State and Utah both applied for membership to the Big 12, the conference voted and made it official. As usual, ESPN’s Pete Thamel was first with the news.

The Big 12 released a statement to announce the news and welcome its new programs.

ASU and Utah are now the seventh and eighth members of the Pac-12 to depart the conference within the last 13 months.

Friday has been a chaotic day for college athletics. It all started late Thursday night during the Arizona Board of Regents meeting where Arizona and Arizona State discussed departing the Pac-12. Big 12 executives accepted Arizona to join the conference. While nothing is official, it appears that UA will be the 14th school for the 2024-25 academic year in the Big 12. When this was all happening, Arizona State and Utah were hesitant, waiting on to see what Oregon and Washington would do.

Report: Big 12 Executives Met to Approve Arizona Joining Conference

On Friday afternoon it was reported that Oregon and Washington would head to the Big Ten, starting in 2024. That then quickly became official. This has been a terrible summer for the Pac-12 as they’ve lost another pair to a different Power-5.

Starting in 2024, Arizona State and Utah will join Colorado as new Big 12 programs.

WV Sports Now will keep you up to date on the latest conference realignment.
